Power user tip: Customize your iPhone's lock screen By Kelli Uhrich, Komando.com

When your phone is locked, sometimes it feels like you're out of the loop. Has someone emailed you? What's happening in the news? When was that doctor's appointment again?

These are all questions that may be lingering in the back of your mind, but you might not want to enter your passcode and pull up different apps to get the information.
That's what makes this tip so handy. Did you know there's a way to customize the widgets that show up on your lock screen?

It's part of your Today View, which can be accessed from your lock screen (or home screen) by swiping right.

Apple has already included some preset widgets in the Today View; however, you can customize these widgets for apps you use more regularly.

Just follow these steps to delete and add the widgets you'd like.

1. From the lock screen or home screen, swipe right to pull up the Today View menu

2. Scroll down to the bottom, and tap Edit

3. Use the red and green dots on the left-hand side to remove and add widgets

4. Enjoy your newly-customized menu!

You can access this customized widget menu at any time by swiping right on your lock screen or home page. Update it as often as you'd like, and the apps you use most will always be easy to access.
