Take a quick look around the Internet and you'll find stories of autocorrect causing much worse misunderstandings. That's why we just did a whole tip on how to take control of autocorrect on an iPhone.
Android is a little trickier than Apple, however, because it lets you use a number of keyboards and each one has its own settings. Plus, each phone has a different version of Android and the settings might be a little different. We'll cover the Samsung keyboard, some major third-party options and where you can generally find other keyboard settings.
Samsung's default keyboard
For any Samsung phone using the default Samsung keyboard, tap on a text field to bring up the keyboard. Find the key with the gear icon, which should be in the bottom-left next to the SYM button. Pressing this key brings up the keyboard settings. That button might be set to act as a microphone, text select or another feature. Tap and hold it to bring up the available options, then select the gear icon to bring up the keyboard settings.
Once you're in the settings, under the "Smart typing" heading, tap "Auto replace."
Here you can turn it off. This will stop it from replacing words when you hit the space bar.
