This week, it's HP's turn. The company is recalling an undisclosed amount of HP laptops because the batteries could overheat, catch fire, and pose burn hazards.
Affected computers were sold from March 2013 to August 2015 and include six different models and eight different battery models: HP, Compaq, HP ProBook, HP ENVY, Compaq Presario and HP Pavilion. To make things super easy, HP has created a utility you can download to see if you have a defective battery without having to remove it.
If you need to manually check your battery, you're looking for these sequences in the battery's barcode: 6BZLU 6CGFK 6CGFQ 6CZMB 6DEMA 6DEMH 6DGAL 6EBVA If you have one of the recalled batteries, stop using it immediately and connect your computer to external power. You'll also need to fill out this form to verify that you have a defective battery, then HP will send you a free replacement.
