Before you spend $1200+ on a new Apple laptop, consider doing the following:
- First, try adding more memory. If you are running Yosemite (Mac OS 10.10), you need to have at least 8GB's of memory. Even if you are not running the latest and greatest, more memory will help. Click on the Apple icon in the upper left corner and select "About This Mac". That will tell you how much memory is installed in your laptop. Click on "More Info" and copy the serial number. Send us the serial number and we can tell you your options for upgrading your memory. For a $40 installation charge and approximately $100 for memory, High Tech House Calls can double your memory.
- What about older laptops that cannot be upgraded beyond, 4 GB's of memory? Consider upgrading your hard drive to the newer SDD technology. Is the SSD upgraded Mac Book as fast as a brand new Mac Book Pro?
No, but it is fast enough that I can use the Mac Book again.
Let's do the math. The SDD and my service charge come to $185. Even if you did both the memory upgrade AND the hard drive upgrade, you have spent a total of $325. A new Mac Book Pro basic model is $1300 before tax. You saved $935!
